Diamond Light Source Limited is a not-for-profit limited company funded as a joint venture by the UK Government through the Science & Technology Facilities Council (STFC) in partnership with the Welcome Trust. Located at Harwell Science and Innovation Campus in South Oxfordshire, Diamond is the UK’s national synchrotron facility, with pioneering capabilities that are supporting cutting edge research in all fields of science and with facilities that are helping to keep the UK at the forefront of scientific research.

Diamond gives the UK a world class 3rd Generation 3GeV synchrotron light source of outstanding brilliance and beam quality, addressing research challenges across the life & physical sciences and engineering.

It is equipped with state-of-the-art experimental stations (beamlines), which enable scientists and engineers to undertake highly-innovative research across a wide range of fields and with a wide variety of potential applications to industrial competitiveness and quality of life.

Diamond will have more than 30 active addressing most of the areas of scientific research identified in this call.

There is a rapidly expanding user community of more than 5000 from both the academic and industrial communities with over 2100 experiments being undertaken in 2013.

A particular feature of Diamond is the close coupling of uniquely identified users with the complete experiment process from proposal submission through data acquisition, evaluation and analysis to data being stored in an externally accessible archive.

As of September 2014, the archive contains more than 540 000 000 files and a data volume over 2Pb.

Diamond will be contributing to the co-design aspects SAGE. Diamond has over 30 experimental stations taking data simultaneously with peak data rates > 1 GByte/sec per experimental station.

These experimental stations cover a wide range of scientific disciplines and data analysis techniques ranging including structural biology, physical properties of materials, 3-D imaging, spectroscopy and microscopy.

Diamond can provide datasets and world leading expertise in the areas of data analysis, HPC and scientific leadership in these scientific disciplines and techniques.
